Pondering Pond Life

imagesLily pads and water lilies have been part of my thinking and conversations this week. Who knew there were so many analogies to draw from the pond-world?

Firstly, the awareness that this plant thrives in mud is an interesting place to start. My own words of “…swimming through mud” and “… my feet are stuck in mud” came back to me in a new way when a colleague re-framed this natural ingredient for me as nourishment. It was a new perspective for me as the healthful connection to mud-masks, the dense base for pond life and even these beautiful flowers of the 7th chakra came to mind.

Lilies and lily pads are fascinating to me in that they are anchored in the mud on a long thin stem, and they grow with the water level so that they float on the surface – not above nor below it. Generally speaking the pads are shaped as hearts or shields. Again, food for thought: both have interpretive meanings that I pondered in my journal this week.

My curiousity lead me to website images of lily pads big enough to support an adult. Can you imagine what it would be like to lie on that living, moving, supportive plant and just stare into the sunshine? I think it would be a thrill!

What’s floating in your awareness this week? What is it that both supports you and nourishes you in your daily life?
